Kindergarten Math
Counting Lesson Plan
|
This lesson is appropriate for preschool or kindergarten. It uses number
relationships to represent information and solve problems by using whole numbers
to represent numbers in more than one way, count and order, name, locate,
measure, and describe and extend pattern. By the end of this lesson, students
should be able to count from one to five orally, accurately write the numbers on
through five without assistance, and be able to recognize the numbers one
through five. Students will use macaroni for a manipulative for hands on
learning. There is also a song to reinforce student learning.
Grade Level: PreK-K
Lesson: Math (Counting)
Concepts to be taught:
1. Counting from one to five.
2. Writing accurately the numbers one through five.
3. Reading the numbers one through five.
Objectives:
1. Students will be able to count from one to five orally.
2. Students will be able to accurately write the numbers one through five,
without help.
3. Students will be able to read the numbers one through five.
Materials:
1. Learning 1 to 5 Song
2. Paper
3. Pencils
4. Chalkboard
5. Chalk
6. Number Line 1-5
7. Macaroni
8. Counting Book
Procedures:
1. Pretest
-
Individually have students count as high as they can to determine where the
class is.
-
Have the students write the numbers 1-5 to see where they are.
2. Read the class a counting book.
3. Tell the class they are going to be working on the numbers 1,2,3,4, and 5.
4. Start teaching the Learning 1-5 Song. Teach verses 1 and 2.
5. Show class on chalkboard how to write a 1.
- Let students practice writing.
- Let students practice counting with macaroni.
- Sing the verses again.
6. Teach verse 3, and how to write a two.
- Let students practice writing.
- Let students practice counting with macaroni.
- Sing the verse again.
7. Teach verse 4, and how to write a three.
- Let students practice writing.
- Let students practice counting with macaroni.
- Sing the verse again.
8. Teach verse 5, and how to write a four.
- Let students practice writing.
-Let students practice counting with macaroni.
-Sing the verse again.
9. Teach verse 6, and how to write a five.
- Let students practice writing.
- Let students practice counting with macaroni. Sing the verse again.
10. Teach the last verse.
11. Let the students practice everything.
12. Sing the whole song.
Evaluation:
- Have each student individually write the numbers 1-5; with out anything to
look at, this will be turned in for me to see how the class did.
- Have each student individually recite the numbers 1-5 to me, so I can see if
they can do it.
- Have students individually read the numbers 1-5 to me, so I can check
accuracy. |
