5th Grade Lesson Plans


Fifth graders should be able to write a five paragraph composition, write with correct sentence structure and read fluently. They should be familiar with all basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts. Fifth graders will also start to see more difficult word problems and have continued practice with fractions, decimals, and percentages.

Language Arts Standards:
Be able to write a five paragraph composition including an introduction, three supporting paragraphs, and a summary.
Recognize parts of speech and correct sentence structure.
Use appropriate punctuation including capitalization, quotation marks, semicolons, colons, apostrophes, titles of books, poems, magazine, song,s and stories.
Achieve a fluency rate of 145 words per minute.

Math Standards:
Knows the addition, subtraction, multiplication, division of whole numbers.
Knows how to solve problems with two operations
Knows how to solve fractions using addition, subtraction, multiplications
Know how to change decimals to percents and fractions.
